Dick Baumgartner's Basketball Shooting CampWhere Great Shooters Are Made Not Born. |
There has been a lot of discussion in recent months about European players being more sound fundamentally than American players.
There has also been a lot of talk and articles written about American players not using the pull-up jump shot to score (mid-range jumper).
These two areas of discussion are somewhat related. It is my belief that European players put the ball on the floor better in general than American players. One of the main essentials in pulling up and shooting the mid-range jumper is putting the ball on the floor correctly.
It is also believed that European players who attend basketball academies spend more time practicing the pull-up jump shot.
Remember, there are some American players who are great scorers. These players were either taught how to do the pull-up jump shot and other scoring techniques or they just developed them in a natural way through experience.
With a better understanding of the pull-up jump shot techniques and more emphasis on practicing it, we will have a lot more mid-range shooters in the near future.
Coaches, directors of basketball camps, and players are starting to realize that teaching a player to be a complete scorer will be the next big push in offensive play.
Since putting the ball on the floor is so important in today's basketball, it was just natural that becoming a complete scorer and passer off the dribble was the next step.
To be a complete scorer a player needs an outside shot, a mid-range jumper, and techniques to take the ball to the basket and finish well.
National exposure to incorrect dribbling techniques
Americans are more exposed to poor dribbling techniques shown on national
television. A player must put the ball on the floor correctly and pick
it up correctly to shoot a pull-up jumper well.
Five main essentials for mid-range shooting not known
Many do not know the five main essentials to teach the pull-up jumper.
Lack of practice
Players practice only outside shooting and driving to the basket. Players
also need a mid-range jumper to be a complete scorer and they must practice
it.
Poor head and body position
Players in general do not realize the importance of correct head and
body position for pulling up and shooting.
Up to this point in time, the pull-up jump shot has not been broken down and analyzed for teaching. Coaches have mainly been concerned with teaching the 3-point shot and driving to the basket.
With 40 years in teaching shooting and other scoring techniques, I believe that the Dick Baumgartner Basketball Shooting Camps teach shooting and other scoring fundamentals correctly.
When the 3-point shot was brought into basketball, I did an in-depth study of 3-point shooting. When I realized the importance of the mid-range jump shot I started an in-depth analysis of what it takes to shoot a pull-up jump shot well. From this study, I learned there are five essential techniques which must be done to shoot the mid-range jumper.
I am always checking to see if the great scorers are doing what we teach. I am pleased to say we are teaching shooting and scoring techniques like the great players are doing them.
The European coaches who run basketball academies for their players will have nothing on our camp except they are run for a longer period of time.
One thing you will find if you attend our camp is that our offensive techniques are as good or better than any camp in America or Europe. Again, our shooting and other scoring techniques are taught like the great players are executing them. We believe no one in the US or Europe will do more for a player in teaching shooting and how to score.
Plan on attending the best. We can definitely help an advanced player or a
beginner. It is highly recommended that you check this
website for information on the two new videos that I just completed.
One is on Great
Techniques and Drills to Develop The Pull-Up Jump Shot
and the other is on Moves and Shots to make
you a great scorer.
If you practice the drills and techniques on those two videos you will be amazed at how much better you will become offensively. Once you master the drills and techniques you will become a great scorer.
